Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
