The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror and Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a girl containing multiple human souls inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Within her reside four distinct personas, all possessing unique fears and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her without warning.

Based on showcased gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy hospital, though additional clips show the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to others can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to each person."

The core mechanic revolves around managing the persona that emerges at a particular time. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's fears become exaggerated and assault the protagonist one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have large flowers where their necks should be. Flowers are a recurring theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four souls asserts that the body belongs to them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players believes a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, because each soul can lie or hide the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The final entity remaining could be a fraud. In any case, your choices are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on digital storefronts.
