Three members of law enforcement were killed and at least 15 others were hurt in a seemingly intentional gas explosion at a country home in the northern part of Italy.

The explosion took place as police and firefighters approached the house near the Verona region to execute an court-ordered eviction for a brother and sister trio aged in their 50s and 60s.

All three victims who died were members of the Carabinieri force.

Investigation Developments

One male and one female got detained at the site and another man who fled subsequent to the explosion was apprehended not long after. The trio have been admitted to medical facility.

The blast could be noticed as far as 3 miles distant and footage from the location revealed the property turned into a mass of wreckage.

“This is a time for grieving,” said Interior Minister the Interior Minister, who mentioned that previous tries had been made to displace the three siblings in the past.

“As we went inside, we encountered a completely deranged action,” provincial police commander Commander Papagno stated to news outlets.

A propane tank had been set off, and the explosion immediately struck our officers,” he explained.

Molotov cocktails were also located at the property, the minister stated.

Injuries and Destruction

Those injured by the incident included eleven more officers of the police force as well as three officers of Italy's state police and a firefighter.

Based on information from the local prosecutor, the farmhouse was in a dilapidated shape and had no electricity.

The official thought the blast had happened on a floor above the doorway and informed reporters it was a “deliberate and pre-planned murder”. Shortly before the incident, he said officers had “detected a whistling noise, likely the propane tanks being turned on”.

“We all knew the situation was dire,” neighbors told Italian media, noting that the family members had earlier warned to “cause an explosion” rather than vacate the property.

“The explosion had left a ‘terrible, very painful and dramatic toll’.”

Minister of Defence the Defence Minister joined other government officials in paying tribute to the three men who had died in the performance of their duties.
