Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often marked by cynicism, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well help usher in that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
