Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood. “This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office. “If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.” This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House. The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year. A New Life Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement. “The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message. “It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.” Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
