A Patriotic Palette and Iconic Emblem

The updated livery features a patriotic colour scheme to mirror the national flag and will be rolled out on GBR trains, at terminals, and across its digital platforms.

Interestingly, the emblem is the distinctive twin-arrow logo historically used by the national rail network and first designed in the mid-20th century for British Rail.

A Rollout Timeline

The introduction of the branding, which was designed by the department, is set to take place gradually.

Commuters are expected to begin seeing the newly-branded trains on the UK rail network from next spring.

In December, the branding will be exhibited at prominent stations, including Birmingham New Street.

The Journey to Public Ownership

The proposed law, which will enable the establishment of Great British Railways, is currently progressing through the legislative process.

The government has argued it is bringing back into public ownership the railways so the system is "run by the people, operating for the public, not for private shareholders."

Great British Railways will consolidate the operation of train services and tracks and signals under one umbrella body.

The department has claimed it will merge 17 different organisations and "eliminate the frustrating bureaucracy and lack of accountability that has long affected the railways."

App-Based Services and Current Public Control

The introduction of Great British Railways will also feature a comprehensive app, which will enable customers to see timetables and reserve journeys without surcharges.

Disabled travellers will also be have the option to use the application to arrange support.

Multiple train companies had earlier been nationalised under the previous administration, such as LNER.

There are currently seven train operators now in public control, covering about a third of passenger trips.

In the past year, c2c have been nationalised, with further franchises anticipated to follow in the coming years.

Official and Sector Comments

"The new design isn't just a paint job," commented the Transport Secretary. It signifies "a transformed service, leaving behind the problems of the past and dedicated completely on providing a proper passenger-focused service."

Rail figures have responded positively to the focus to enhancing services.

"The industry will continue to cooperate with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless handover to Great British Railways," a senior figure added.
